Hanging Garland on Staircase with blogger BlueGrayGal. Frontgate merlot and gold garland.

Our staircase is really tall – at at a very steep angle. In the past I just haven’t been happy with how the staircase banister garland turned out. Learning scale is still challenging!

This year I realized I just didn’t have enough garland to create the right scale, so i doubled it. Each area is actualloy two pieces of garland to create a heavier swag. Much better!

You need two feet of garland for every foot of the handrail.

You need one foot of garland for every foot of the handrail. I use one entire 6′ strand at just the end of the banister to create the draping piece which gives great fullness and a wow factor!
