Refinish a Nightstand
To refinish a nightstand is ridiculously easy and affordable! I’m here to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help me God. This is the exact same nightstand on the left as on the right.
Say what?! “No way,” you say. “Yes way,” I say! With new paint and new hardware this old nightstand we inherited from the previous owners has gone from “lovingly homemade” to looking to fabulous, fresh and modern in less than a few hours.
Here’s what was used to refinish a nightstand in our daughter’s room:
Valspar Gray Green Linen
Bellacor Knobs, Crystal Polished Brass (on sale)
To further pull her nightstand area together, I used decorative books that secretly hide her cr….junk. Or her collections she loves I should say. I don’t know about your little girl but mine hoards. She’s a hoarder of the highest extreme. And it makes me crazy but I want to be supportive! So we struck a comprise when I found these amazing books that are really cute and have secret hidden compartments in them to hide everything! Brilliant!
I found several versions of these books, all very reasonably priced. Note, I searched Homegoods for over a month and could never find them. I recommend you just order online – I could not find them anywhere in a store.
Also, I can think of a dozen great places to use these. Coffee table for remotes, kitchen for car keys and sunglasses (I may be buying a new set in the gold for this purpose.) Or you could add them to your nightstand for jewelry or rubber bands and even your entry hall table for keys or pruning sheers if you garden (yes, I actually keep pruning sheers in my pretty foyer hall chest because I am that obsessed with my lawn!)
Also, if you just want to store special things and put them on bookshelves as a way of protecting valuables from possible break ins this is a fabulous idea for that!
decor books with compartments
I love the green ones, I think I may put the apple green version of those knobs in her bathroom to make her basic white cabinets pop!
So what you are storing in your secret compartment books? Aren’t they amazing! I need more.
