How Changing Your Throw Pillows Can Refresh Your Entire Space!
Buying neutral sofa’s and chairs is the way to go, in my opinion. Doing this lets you buy a high-quality couch or chair without having to commit to a decor look. If you have a neutral color sofa then you’re free to change the whole vibe of your space depending on how you’re feeling. Maybe you’re someone who prefers to splurge and buy designer throw pillows (me!) because you’re pretty consistent in your aesthetic. Or maybe you’re someone who likes to buy Target throw pillows so you can change the feel of your home on a whim. Buying luxury throw pillows isn’t for all – it’s a healthy chunk of change, but you get what you pay for — embroidery, specialty fabrics/prints, and unique trim. But you can create just a pretty vibe with Target throw pillows.

Family Room Throw Pillows
Take a look at the above shots of my family room. Yes, the sofa and coffee table changes. But focus on the two chairs by the fireplace. Those are the exact same chairs, and the exact same garden stool end table. The only things that changed were the colors and shape of the throw pillows. That’s it! These designer throw pillows totally lightened the room and made it brighter. Not that the earlier pillows were bad (heck, I bought them!) but the look with a bit darker and more traditional. The new pillows make the chairs a bit more transitional.
Tip 1: Don’t Just Change the Color – Change the Shape!
Also, you’ll notice that not only did the color scheme change, but the size of the chair pillow changed! We changed it from a large, overstuffed square to a lumbar. Just this small change made the chair feel both larger, and maybe more welcoming because there as more room to sit!
No doubt I splurge on designer pillows – a lot of them are custom made to match exactly the vision my designer and I have. But this will give you an idea of how you can take neutral bedding, update the throw pillows and voila – a new family room!
I also love layering pillows -my husband hates too many, so I focus on making sure they are comfy. Putting two side by side that work together, but don’t match the help layer in the color scheme and add interest.
Bedroom Throws Pillows
I have a love for white hotel sheets. I find the look classy and timeless. In our bedroom, I use a neutral quilt, but the entire effect is very calming and tone on tone. To spice it up, you can see how changing the throw pillows completely transforms the same white bedding.
Tip 2: Treat your Outdoor Area like Your Indoor Area!
Now take this same advice and apply it outdoors! Take a look at my fireplace area. The furniture stayed exactly the same, the only thing that changed were the cushions and throw pillows. With just a refresh of those two pieces, the entire look transformed!
