The Year of the Home Remodel

This year will be a big one for us – we are renovating huge portions of our home! After living in our home eight years, we know how we use important areas of our home and the current layout needs a lot of rearranging! So we’re embarking in a massive overhaul of our home! It’s not the aesthetics that bother me (though after 15 years they could use a refresh, but that’s not why we are remodeling) – it’s the functionality of each space. We will be living at home throughout the renovation so I anticipate so many lessons to be learned!

What’s Being Remodeled

The kitchen is getting a gigantic overhaul. Nearly every wall is coming down, floor ripped up, new configuration, cabinetry, appliances – the works! You won’t even recognize this place when it’s done! But trust me…it’s going to be fabulous!

Butler’s Pantry

We have an outdoor area that has never once been used in our home. It’s wasted space, so we are connecting it to the kitchen to function as a “working kitchen” or butler’s pantry. This is beyond exciting!

Where this hammock is will become a full working kitchen!

Our side door is where almost everyone comes in. So we are formalizing the landscaping outdoors and design to be more welcoming. The mudroom flow will also be changed to make it easier for guests as they enter our home!

Lowering Dining Room Ceiling

Don’t hate me for this – but I’m dropping the dining room ceiling. I’ve always favored more intimate dining rooms, and the two story ceiling in that room has always been something I wanted to change. So the ceiling is getting dropped, a new lighting fixture added – and we plan for many more nights sitting in it by the cozy fireplace in there! Can’t wait!

Master Bathroom & Closet

Oh holy cow! This one is a crazy gut job. Every single wall is coming down, windows added, every piece of plumbing moved. It’s going to be a massive change, a gorgeous result! Can hardly wait!

My Plan for You

I have never ever gone through a remodel. We will be living in our home during construction (send alcohol, please.) I am working on setting up my YouTube studio so that I can go “vent” about the lessons I’ve learned in the event you go through a remodel! I’ve already learned so many!

I plan to document the entire process, share it with you and let you go through this journey with me!

I’ll be digging into each room to explain the reason why we’ve chosen to remodel it, my thought process in new design and share the construction process!

For any of you who have “been there, done that” I invite you to comment and send advise! Lord knows I need it!

Please share your thoughts!
